Code and standards
BPIC supports the adoption of nationally agreed technical standards for building materials and building work.
National Construction Code
The National Construction Code (NCC) which includes the Building Code of Australia (Volumes 1 and 2) and the Plumbing Code of Australia have provided industry with a nationally agreed set of technical standards for building work, and hence building materials, since 1990.
BPIC represents the building products sector on the Building Codes Committee (BCC) of the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) which is responsible for preparing and publishing the NCC.

Australian Standards
Standards Australia is responsible for the development of hundreds of Australian Standards that are used by the building materials and products industry to ensure Australian buildings are structural sound.
BPIC members represent the building materials and products industry on a range of Australian Standards committees.

Affordability
Through its members and in discussion with government, industry and the wider community BPIC helps to ensure that there is informed debate on the impact of building materials and products on building affordability, particularly for housing. That is, the part building materials and products play in the total installed cost of a construction.
Compliance
BPIC members represent the key structural building materials used in today’s buildings and construction projects. The importance of these materials being compliant with Australian building regulations, codes and standards is fundamental to the operation and viability of the Australian building products sector.
BPIC is working closely with several industry associations and forums to promote the need for a competent building product conformance framework in Australia.
